Celebrating Women in Our Community, Maria Mills-Benat, Owner of Salsa Addiction

Maria Mills-Benat had been making home-made salsa for years, enjoyed by family and friends.  After receiving a demand for jars of her salsa and being approached about setting up a booth at the Green Market in Port Orange, she decided this was the time to go into business.

Now a little over a year later, Salsa Addiction has been operating successfully, even delivering as far as Canada. The appeal of this salsa is not only the delicious flavors, but the healthy factor.

This fresh salsa is Organic, Sugar Free, Gluten Free, and MSG Free. The produce to make the salsa is provided by local farmers. Salsa Addiction presently comes in 4 flavors: Original Mild, Medium, Hot, and Chipotle Roasted Garlic with Maria working on more flavors to add in the near future.

Not only is Salsa Addiction health conscious, but also environmentally conscious. Maria has a "recycling" program to encourage you to recycle the salsa jars by returning them and you receive $.50 off your next jar. In addition to the recycling program, she has a rewards card, after so many punches you get a free jar!

With salsa becoming a popular healthy snack alternative, it is no surprise Salsa Addiction’s jars of salsa are given as gifts. "Customers have bought Salsa Addiction for baby shower favors, birthday gifts, hostess gifts, and even client gifts."

Owning a home-based business comes with its challenges, but the rewards are far greater. Maria and her husband have to keep up with the operations while trying to gain the exposure for Salsa Addiction.  However, she loves hearing the positive feedback she receives from customers, the “I could drink this with a straw” kind of reactions.  She loves supporting the local farmers, as well, as working with non-profit organizations to increase their fundraising efforts by way of a % of sales at their events.
To find out more about Salsa Addiction visit them at the Green Market in the Port Orange Pavilion every Saturday.

Find them on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/SalsaAddiction
(you’ll find recipes, salsa facts, and when they will announce their website is “live”)

Front Porch Pickings: Fresh Fruits & Vegetables Delivered to Your Door

Green Basket

Front Porch Pickings has made the front door delivery of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables a reality!

Concerned with my family’s diet, I wanted to add healthier foods, while supporting our local farmers.

Jan Pittard and Nicole Pittard Lebron, the Father and Daughter team own and operate this convenient method of providing vegetables & fruits from farm to table.

 How it works:
- Sign up through Front Porch Pickings website at http://www.frontporchpickings.com/; choose weekly or bi-weekly delivery

- Choose from the many different baskets at different price points.

- They will contact you with a confirmation of delivery day, time, & Credit Card info.

- You will receive an email prior to delivery date, describing what your basket will contain.  (This is great because it gives you time for recipe preparation)
- On Delivery day, you don’t have to be home, just leave a cooler out with a little ice on the bottom and your bag is placed in there, fresh & ready for you.

Different Fruits/Vegetables:
We have received vegetables I had not tried before, such as this Alfresco, which I call a beautiful version of broccoli. I not only educate myself on what and how to cook such a vegetable, but I educate my children on the variety of fruits & vegetables.

Special Requests:
If you prefer not to have a specific kind of vegetable or fruit OR you would like to have more of an item, simply email the request in.

FPP currently serves Volusia, Flagler, St John’s County, and Tampa Bay FL area!

To find out how to have fresh vegetables & fruit delivered to your door, visit Front Porch Pickings

McK's Tavern - St. Patty’s Celebration

McK's Tavern  218 South Beach Street, Daytona Beach, FL 32114

The Scene was set for a great St. Patty’s Celebration on South Beach Street in front of McK’s Tavern.  Everyone was in jovial spirits and wearing their best green.

From Leprechauns to Kilts, there was a sea of emerald and traditional Irish attire in front of McK’s Tavern.

As the Live Irish music played outside, patrons danced and made the rounds to the many libation tents that nicely accommodated such a large crowd.

Live Music every Friday, 7p-10p

When I walked inside McK’s Tavern, I was immediately hit with the delicious smells of traditional Irish cuisine.  The tables were packed and I could overhear the customers talking about the amazing Shepherd’s Pie. The bar atmosphere took me back 10 years ago, when I was able to visit Ireland.

I look forward to future St. Patty’s events at McK’s, as well as, returning for Shepherd’s Pie and a night out with friends!

Look for McK’s Tavern on Facebook to find out about their daily specials!
